Welcome back to Mess Around Downtown!

When you’re done working and life is making you hungry, you can always go Downtown. Don’t hang around and let those pangs surround you. There are new restaurants Downtown. The Mess Around knows some new places to go. And afterward you can pick up some vino. Things will taste great when you’re Downtown. Maybe I’ll see you there.  And remember that you can find anything you need with our handy Downtown Directory. Don’t be afraid to email me at [email protected]. Thanks.

The Bailey Pub & Brasserie52 William Street: 212.859.2200

From the fine people at Trinity Place comes this new eating and drinking establishment. They’ve completely revamped the interior into a sleek and spacious venue fit for a date or a large group outing. They’re serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner everyday. Stop in for a Full Irish Breakfast, Adobo Steak Salad, or a Sauteed Brook Trout.

Chickpea – 110 William Street: 212.566.5666

“Always baked. Never fried.”  That is the motto of this new little place to nosh on John Street. They’re doing breakfast and lunch during the week. I like the prices. A spinach and mushroom omelette is just $3. Egg and cheese sandwiches are $2. They’ve got bagels, lox, oatmeal, and grilled cheese too. For lunch choose from hummus plates, kebabs,  falafel, shawarma, and a hybrid called shawafel. Finish your meal with a honey cake or baklava. Yum.

A great new wine store with a friendly and knowledgeable staff ready to help you select the perfect bottle. They do tastings, they deliver, and they have plenty of varietals to choose from. Pick up a bottle or a case today for a good price.

JR Sushi – 86A W. Broadway: 212.233.8338

Wow. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that this rundown Blimpie had been transformed into a lovely sushi place. It’s definitely worth your time to stop by for a taste or order a party tray for your next shi-shi football gathering. They also have an array of bubble teas and milkshakes with rainbow jelly. Don’t overlook their dumplings when ordering.
