Federal Hall Has the Bible That George Washington Used to Take the Oath of Office

Plans for this year’s Inauguration Day ceremony look a little different than those in years past due to safety and social-distancing precautions, but the event will still take place in Washington, D.C., the nation’s capital. As a reminder, the first presidential inauguration was held right here in Lower Manhattan, on the steps of Federal Hall. Now a national memorial, Federal Hall still has George Washington’s inaugural bible, a King James edition printed in London just a decade or two before Washington was sworn in. Untapped Cities has a compelling read on the bible’s history — and more Federal Hall artifacts. Highly recommend..
