Race, Reconstruction, Voting Rights: Join Federal Hall For The Discussion

Wall Street’s Federal Hall is the site where George Washington was inaugurated in 1789, as well as where the first Congress met and the states ratified the Bill of Rights. Currently, the historic institution is hosting a series of timely and interesting panels — virtually, of course — for everyone to join.

The ongoing series “Debate Defends Democracy” is compiled of Zoom-based discussions on constitutional issues as they relate to our current moment. The next program, taking place on October 13, is “Race, Reconstruction and Voting Rights.” WNYC’s legal editor Jami Floyd will moderate the following panel:

Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and who headed President Obama’s Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice

Rick Hasen, who teaches law and political science at the University of California Irvine, and is CNN’s election law analyst

Rina Shah, managing director of Red Fort Strategies and former congressional staffer

The next program in the series, “Democracy & the Electoral College,” is slated for October 27 with CNN’s John Avlon as moderator.
