Schools Are Giving Out Three Free Meals A Day Through The Summer

At the beginning of the pandemic, the Department of Education launched a grab-and-go lunch program to ensure that kids across the five boroughs wouldn’t go hungry since schools were shuttered in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. Soon after, the program expanded to include three free meals a day for all New Yorkers — not just students.

And now, Mayor de Blasio announced, the program will continue through the summer. “No New Yorker should ever have to ask the question, ‘Where am I going to find my next meal?'” de Blasio said. “We will not let anyone go hungry this summer.”

Meals can be picked up at all 435 meal hubs across the city Monday through Friday, 7:30a–1:30p. Here’s what else you should know:

—Meal hubs will operate for children and families 7:30a–11:30a and for adults 11:30a–1:30p.

—No one will be turned away at any time.

—All adults and children can pick up three meals at one time.

—Vegetarian and halal options are available at all sites.

—No dining space is available, so meals must be eaten off-premises.

—Parents and guardians may pick up meals for their children.

—No registration or ID is required.
