An Overview Of Businesses You Can Expect To Open In Phase 2

New York City’s second-phase reopening starts Monday, June 22, which means the following types of businesses are legally permitted to operate.

—Hair salons and barbershops

—Outdoor dining

—In-store retail

—Offices

—Retail rental, repair and cleaning

—Real estate

—Commercial building management

—Vehicle sales, leases and rentals

According to New York State, every business is required to post a business reopening plan on its premises. Plans may differ depending upon the type of business that is opening, but here are four of the most important things businesses are taking under consideration when operating during COVID-19.

—Traffic flow: Each store can have no more than 50% occupancy: How will you keep employees and customers safe inside the store while maintaining social distancing? Do you need to make certain areas or aisles one way? Do objects need to be removed or rearranged to create more space for seating? How are you reducing lines?

—Communication: This includes all signs to post in front of and throughout your store about social distancing, wearing masks and where to stand when waiting on line

—Health checks: Ensure sick employees stay home as soon as they notice feeling unwell; conduct symptom surveys before each employee comes to work

—Sanitization: Clean the store thoroughly and frequently, but also educate employees about conduct (e.g. always wear masks, wash hands frequently, cover your mouth with the crook of your arm when coughing or sneezing).

Business owners and employees are doing their part to keep things safe as we begin to emerge from the NYC pause — you should do your part, too.
