Michelin Is Helping You Turn Your Kitchen Into A Starred Dining Experience

While Larry David is correct that self-isolation is the perfect opportunity to stay home, sit on the couch and watch TV, but should you grow restless, these strange times are also giving aspiring home chefs a chance to perfect their skills. A brief navigation away from “Curb Your Enthusiasm” to Instagram reveals that Michelin is making it fun and easy to try new things.

Calling the project #MichelinGuideAtHome, the 100-year-old institution “presents homemade recipes, straight from your favorite chefs to your kitchen,” and encourages participants to share their attempts with the aforementioned hashtag.

Chefs from the most delicious restaurants around the world are letting us self-isolators in on some of their easier-to-achieve culinary secrets, like an astounding vegan risotto from Christian and Manuel Costardi (tried and tasted by this Downtown Alliance staffer: amazing).

In this case: Italian comfort food 🇮🇹 Christian and Manuel Costardi, the two brothers behind @costardibros — one star in the MICHELIN Guide Italy 2020 🇮🇹 — share their recipe for beautiful, rich risotto. Their restaurant is located in Vercelli, a town famous for rice cultivation. “The idea is to recreate the taste of Spaghetti with garlic, oil and chili (aglio, olio e peperoncino). It offers the perfect risotto taste minus the lactose.” . . Remember that when this New York City pause is over, Lower Manhattan touts two Michelin-starred restaurants (Crown Shy and L’Appart) waiting to dish out deliciousness. Not only that, the whole neighborhood was dubbed a three-star destination in the Michelin 2019 Green Guide.

“Downtown New York City is a must-see neighborhood,” Philippe Orain, editorial director and editor-in-chief of the Michelin Green Guide, said. “Personally, I love the Woolworth Building, St. Paul’s Chapel and a drink at the Dead Rabbit… Historical and contemporary in its architecture, lively in its lifestyle and almost surrounded by water, it really is worth the journey.”

Until we can all return to these special places, let’s try cooking up a storm (and watching ample TV).
