Avengers Go Virtual, Coconut Lounge Cocktails, Canstruction: Things To Do in November

For readers who’re counting down to the tastiest holiday of the year, we culled together a variety of things to see and do before Turkey Day to keep you active and aware of all you have to be grateful for in our NYC neighborhood.

Two by Two Tutoring Program

Sometimes school work can be tricky to solve, even for the most well-intentioned parents. That’s when the Two by Two Tutoring Program, located at 55 Water St, comes in to help students from grades 2 to 12 ace their studies, thanks to one-on-one help with knowledgeable and dedicated staff members. (Every Monday and Wednesday from 4:30p to 7:30p.)

New York City Public Markets Festival

From October’s Taste of the Seaport 10th anniversary bonanza to the five-week-long Food Lab mixology series, the Seaport District has been on fire with a slew of drool-inducing food events. This month, the New York City Public Markets Festival—run by our friends at the Fulton Stall Market and the NYCEDC—invites everyone to sample new bites and sip craft beverages in celebration of the city’s public market diversity. (November 3 from 11a to 5p.)

Canstruction at Brookfield Place

When playing with your food is perfectly acceptable: The annual canned sculpture competition Canstruction enlists talented architects, designers, engineers and contractors to design immense 3-D figures and scenes out of canned goods. After the competition’s run, all of the canned food will be donated to City Harvest to distribute to those in need during the holidays. (Free exhibition on display inside Brookfield Place November 7-21 from 10a-8p.)

VOID VR Presents: Avengers: Damage Control

Take a virtual joyride through the Marvel universe in VOID VR’s latest interactive experience at their pop-up location in Westfield WTC. Shuri has recruited you to test a powerful, new prototype that combines Wakandan and Stark technologies to help you battle alongside Doctor Strange, Wasp, Ant-Man and more hero cameos to stop an evil force from overtaking the world. ($39.95 through November 10.)

Stretching the Canvas: Eight Decades of Native Painting

If you still haven’t visited the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian at the impressive Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House, we encourage you to check out one of the best art spaces in NYC. The museum’s latest exhibit, Stretching the Canvas, presents nearly 40 paintings across 80 years that transcend, represent or subvert conventional ideas of authenticity. This is a wonderful chance to immerse yourself in native art and history while supporting one of the city’s fine art institutions. (Free through fall 2021.)

Coconut Lounge debuts at W New York – Downtown

The creative minds at Studio 11 Design developed a tropical oasis on the 5th floor terrace of the W Hotel – Downtown. The pop-up’s happy decor and themed cocktails are the perfect panacea for those in need of pre-holiday cheer when Daylight Savings ends! (The lounge is open through December.)
