Striking, Sustainable Jewelry Shines At Greenwich St. Jewelers

Small businesses are an integral part of the Lower Manhattan community. In anticipation of Small Business Saturday (November 30), every week we’re introducing you to a local business on our Instagram TV series “Shop Small” as well as on our blog. Also, be sure to nominate your favorite store south of Chambers Street and you’ll be entered to win a $500 prize that can be spent at up to five Lower Manhattan small businesses!

Founded in 1976 by master-jeweler Carlos Gandia and his wife/business partner Milly, Greenwich St. Jewelers (64 Trinity Place) was taken over years later by a pair of keen merchandising kinfolk—namely daughters Jennifer Gandia and Christina Gambale. The siblings have maintained staple pillars from their parents’ operation (e.g., custom jewelry design, repair and restoration) but have also expanded the retail shop to include one of their own passions: curating sustainably-sourced diamonds by up-and-coming designers from across the globe.

Engagement rings and custom pieces are just a few of the available products, but they “carry artists that have a distinct and inspired aesthetic,” Gandia said, “which makes the jewelry in our cases unlike any selection you’ll find in NYC.” Cases in point: The textured and asymmetrical pieces from artist Jamie Joseph, who’s slated for a trunk-show appearance November 1 through November 4; UK designer Ruth Tomlinson’s handcrafted precious metals, which Gambale has characterized as having a “perfectly imperfect, organic look,” and the exclusive collection of separate locks and “jewel tools” from the talented Marla Aaron.

If not in the market for a new piece of hardware and instead want to make grandma’s old brooch sparkle again? Or perhaps resize that wedding ring? Gandia and Gambale got you. “Our only aim is to delight our clients with a superb experience in our store,” Gandia said.
