Greenmarkets In Lower Manhattan: Hours, Items, All You Need to Know

The start of fall may catalyze the changing color of the leaves, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still celebrate all things green. Lower Manhattan is home to a selection of indoor and outdoor greenmarkets. From fresh vegetables to blooming herbs, these local markets provide some much-needed greenery among the impending red and orange. 

Fulton Stall Market

This multi-dimensional marketplace on 91 South Street offers customers rare indoor and outdoor access to produce. Their brick-and-mortar shop is open daily 11:30a to 6p and features local products from more than 100 farmers and speciality food producers. Homemade soup, coffee and baked goods are available for purchase. 

Fulton Stall Market’s outdoor shop is located on Pier 17 Square and opens Sundays 11a to 5p. This waterfront market showcases a rotating cast of local food vendors. 

In addition to its indoor and outdoor spaces, the market hosts seasonal events like their Fall Farm Share Program. From September 19 to December 12, participants can purchase vegetables, meat, seafood and cheese from local vendors. The program is accessed at their 91 South Street location and is open Thursdays 5:30p-8p. 

Greenmarket on Oculus Plaza at Westfield World Trade Center

This historic market on Oculus Plaza reopened two years ago after last serving customers on 9/11. They are open Tuesdays 7a to 7p from June 25 to October 29. Vendors range in specialties from orchard fruit to bread and baked goods to meats and cheeses. Customers can also indulge in handcrafted vodka and Roxbury Mountain maple syrup. 

Beyond its varied food options, the greenmarket offers cooking demos and seasonal celebrations. The market accepts cash, SNAP/EBT, debit/credit, WIC and senior FMNP coupons. 

Water Street Greenmarket at Coenties Slip

The Coenties greenmarket has been serving New Yorkers since 1976. Their mission revolves around providing a platform for local farmers to both promote regional agriculture and ensure that all city residents have access to fresh produce. 

The Greenmarket is open Thursdays 8a to 6p from June 6 to December 19. 

Staten Island Ferry Whitehall Terminal Greenmarket

Before you catch a ferry ride to Governors Island, consider stopping by this market on 4 South Street, located inside the ferry terminal.

The South Island market is open every Tuesday and Friday year-round. From 8a to 7p, patrons help themselves to locally grown orchard fruit, season vegetables, maple syrup, honey and pastries. The market is currently hosting Remsburger Maple Farm and Wilklow Orchards. Customers can also partake in cooking demos and fam-friendly activities. 

City Hall Park Greenmarket

Located on Broadway at Chambers Street, this market is open every Tuesday and Friday year-round. From 8a to 4p, visitors can indulge in tomatoes, peaches, creamed honey and baked goods. In addition to offering cooking demos, the City Hall Park Greenmarket has partnered with Cornell Cooperative Extension to conduct weekly bilingual nutrition education workshops. 

Tribeca Greenmarket

This one on Greenwich Street between Chambers and Duane is open Wednesdays and Saturdays year-round. Customers arrive between 8a and 3p to get their fix of locally grown produce, meat, sheep’s milk, herbs and live plants. Cooking demonstrations, raffles and educational activities make the market enticing to shoppers of all ages. Additionally, the market participates in GrowNYC’s Clothing Collection and Food Scrap Composting.

Bowling Green Greenmarket

Every Tuesday and Thursday year-round on Broadway at Battery Place, visitors help themselves to fresh produce, plants, breads and quiches. Each Tuesday, the market participates in GrowNYC’s Food Scrap Composting. 

Fresh Food for Seniors  

If you know a senior who wants fresh produce and local food delivered to their door, the Fresh Food for Seniors program may be the ticket. From now until November, for $8, a brown paper bag replete with crispy veggies (courtesy of GrowNYC) will be couriered directly to your nanna’s living place. Just pay cash in advance and a sack filled with seasonal assortments will await their pick-up in their building’s lobby. Drop-offs are slated for twice a month at three locations — Liberty Court residences (200 Rector Place), Southbridge Towers (90 Beekman Street) and St. Margaret’s House (49 Fulton Street) — with more locations to come.
