Fall Season Events Bountiful with Songs, Art and Hackathons

Nothing beats autumn in New York—it’s warm, vibrant and the events in October are equally as colorful as the season itself. From community sports viewings to an animation festival and a two-day hackathon, here are a few of Lower Manhattan’s pre-Halloween events to keep an eye on.

NFL Game Day at the Seaport—through Week 16 (weather permitting)

You’ll be inside all the time soon enough, which is exactly why you football-loving fans should congregate outside at the Seaport’s Garden Bar to root for your favorite pigskin jerseys! Enjoy light bites and drinks at the outdoor bar, as well as $1 unlimited wings from Cobble & Co. beginning at 4p.

Greenmarket at Westfield World Trade Center’s Oculus Plaza—Tuesdays

Purchase seasonal produce, homemade confections and support local farmers at the WTC Oculus’s weekly greenmarket. The outdoor market remains on the plaza until October 29.

Animation Nights New York Best of Fest—October 5-6

Get inspired this season at the fourth annual ANNY Best of Fest! The two-day festival and conference features animation screenings from around the world in addition to industry panels, fine art galleries, virtual reality workshops and more.

Dockapella 2019 at Battery Park City Parks—October 6

I’ll try not to sing out of tune when six talented university a cappella groups share mics at Robert F. Wagner park for a picturesque afternoon filled with musical revelry.

LYLAS Labs: Women @ Work Hackathon—October 11-12

Love to promote professional growth and connect with good people? Love ya like a sis (LYLAS) Labs is hosting a networking happy hour on October 11 and a hackathon on October 12 to unite 100+ New Yorkers across industries to combat gender disparities in the workplace. The workshop is open to all participants regardless of technical experience.

New Sounds Live—October 15-16

Head to the Winter Garden at Brookfield Place for WNYC host John Schaefer’s free, annual two-night music series, featuring Ensemble Signal performing the music of Steve Reich.

Open House New York—October 18-20

Open House New York

NYC’s annual 3-day event is your open invitation to tour a variety of private spaces that are normally (and literally) behind closed doors. Get the scoop on Lower Manhattan specific sites in our dedicated blog feature.
