A Car-Free Summer Oasis in NY Harbor

Governors Island

What’s 800 yards away, filled with summer fun and just opened for the season?  Governors Island!

The Island promises a car-free oasis just a five minute ferry ride from the hustle and bustle of Lower Manhattan and truly has something for everyone.  Everyday you can enjoy sweeping views of New York Harbor and the city’s awe-inspiring skyline via kayak or bike, go back in history at the Governors Island National Museum and/or travel down ziplines and 50-foot long slides. On top of that, Governors Island is also the only spot where you can go from learning about the history of oysters in New York and their return to the harbor just minutes before sitting down to feast on them with a cold beverage at Island Oyster.

They’ve also created a calendar of special music, movie and art events that will make each visit a new experience all summer long.  Here’s a peak at what’s been announced.
