Sports Fans & Film Buffs Team Up For Free Movie Nights
By: Owa Kankhwende
The recent Oscars reminded us once again how great movies entertain, amaze and inspire us. In particular, who doesn’t love rooting for an underdog or a groundbreaking sports movie?
This year, the Neighborhood Movie Nights series at St Paul’s Chapel is sports themed and will feature nostalgic and honored films like Remember the Titans as well as A League of Their Own.
If you’re more into the comedic and light hearted sports flicks, they will also feature The Karate Kid (that final move was amazing right?) and Cool Runnings. Also revisit time-honored inspirational stories and fan favorite characters like Roy Hobbs (played by Robert Redford) in The Natural and the legendary Rocky Balboa (we all know who plays him right?) in the first Rocky movie.
The film showings take place on Friday nights beginning this spring, break for summer and return in the fall as follows:
March 23: Remember the Titans starring Denzel Washington, Will Patton, Wood Harris
April 20: A League of Their Own starring Tom Hanks, Geena Davis
May 11: Cool Runnings starring John Candy, Leon, Doug E. Doug
September 21: The Karate Kid starring Ralph Macchio, Pat Morita, Elisabeth Shue
October 19: The Natural starring Robert Redford, Robert Duvall, Glenn Close
November 9: Rocky starring Sylvester Stallone, Talia Shire, Burt Young
All films are rated PG. Doors open at 6:30 PM. Movies play at 7 PM. Admission and snacks are free. Seating is first come, first served.
Enjoy the show!
