This week New York State put the word out that your favorite watering holes can still serve to-go alcoholic beverages through July 25. “We understand the positive impact this has had for businesses during this trying time,” one senior advisor to Governor Cuomo said, “and we intend to renew this option in an upcoming executive order.”
Talk of the extension is in reaction to the news of New York City’s multi-phase reopening, which currently includes the ability to dine outdoors and, come July 6, inside the premises. But these events should not hinder you from picking up some margs for a mid-day siesta.
The executive order, which developed new rules to allow the sale of wine and spirits for takeout and delivery, is technically set to expire on Saturday but has been renewed twice since its initial authorization on March 17. Cuomo’s green light for restaurants to pack up gimlets, martinis and glasses of pinot has been a boon for small businesses as well as thirsty New Yorkers across the five boroughs.
For Lower Manhattanites, here is a handful of your local spots that are continuing to serve up delicious cocktails to help you get through this pandemic. Just remember to be a good customer and comply with open-container laws!
