The Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network is a US-based organization that works in K-12 schools to end bullying, harassment and discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expressions. The GLSEN HQ is located right here in Lower Manhattan.There are 39 chapters across 26 states which all sponsor a Day of Silence every April, a GLSEN Ally Week in September and a No Name-Calling week each January.
The Anti-Violence Project empowers lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer and HIV-affected communities to end violence and support survivors through counseling and advocacy. Founded in 1980 to work on behalf of victims of violence and inaction against the LGBTQ+ community, the Anti-VIolence project is headquartered in Lower Manhattan.
This American civil rights organization focuses on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities, along with people living with HIV/AIDS. The Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, better known as Lambda Legal, does this through impact litigation, societal education, and public policy work.
These organizations are filing lawsuits, affecting public policy and creating bridges and boundaries that make life safer and more productive for the LGBTQ+ community here in New York City and the United States.
