The shortest month of the year can be brutal to face regardless of one’s efforts to bundle up or absorb extra Vitamin D. And while the desire to hibernate until mid-April is strong within all who experience NYC winters, we encourage you to fight the temptation, strap on your boots and enjoy this month’s creative and cultural offerings.
From classic movie sing-alongs to laughter-filled comedy specials, Lower Manhattan boasts an amazing variety of local indoor activities and live performances this February. Below are a few of our favorite finds this month, but you can find many more that are added daily on the Downtown NYC’s official Events calendar.

The three-day event, curated by longtime Radio WNYC host and music aficionado John Schaefer, is free to enjoy and features a different film and genre every evening (Slapstick! Horror! Crime-heist!), so you’ll find a crowd-pleaser AND increase your movie trivia knowledge.

Those seeking extra luck and happiness in the Year of the Pig should visit the Winter Garden for a dynamic Lion Parade hosted by the New York Chinese Cultural Center! Chim-chimeny, Chim-chimeny, chim-chim-cher-ee, to sing loud in public is where you should be. Pre-screening activities will begin at 3PM and include games, prizes and even a meet-and-greet with the practically perfect nanny herself! The movie will commence at 4PM and ticket prices start at $20.

Gravity defying acts are #NBD to the outstanding tumblers, contortionists and athletes in this two-hour show of incredible skill. Curling & Game Night at Pier 17
Tuesday nights all winter
We felt justified in listing this nyc winter outing because there are plenty of cozy, indoor seats surrounding the rooftop skating rink. We’re also excited to (finally!) learn how to curl on the rooftop at Pier 17 Winterland, located on the eastern edge of the Seaport District. Coaching sessions are available for all ages by reservation, or you can hang out on and off the ice playing casual winter games like cornhole, ice pong and ice painting.
