This month marked the twentieth anniversary of the Downtown Alliance’s founding. We celebrated the occasion this Wednesday evening at one of Lower Manhattan’s most iconic and historic locations, Cipriani at 25 Broadway.
Our anniversary event brought together a host of citywide leaders in celebration of Lower Manhattan’s remarkable history and success. The evening also featured the presentation of the David Rockefeller Downtown Leadership Award to Robert R. Douglass, who has served as our chairman for these past twenty years.
The video above was created to serve as testament and tribute to who we are and how far Lower Manhattan has come. These last two decades have been marked by vision, commitment, tragedy, resilience and renewal. Working side by side with the Downtown community we have helped reimagine the area’s possibilities and transformation into a leading global urban success story.
To also mark the occasion we published a commemorative 2014 Annual Report which tells the Alliance story since its inception. Described as a “Rocky of Manhattan neighborhoods – beaten up, written off and forgotten…and we came back and won”, the story of Lower Manhattan reads as rich history—a story full of drama and accomplishment. And finally, we celebrate our staff (four of whom opened our doors and are still with us) – a group of individuals dedicated to the mission of advancing Lower Manhattan to be the best it can be!
