Honoring the legacy of Elizabeth H. Berger

New York City Deputy Mayor Patti Harris, Deputy Parks Commissioner Bill Castro, Council member Margaret Chin, Community Board 1 Chair Catherine McVay Hughes along with Robert R. Douglass, chair, and Bill Bernstein, acting President of the Downtown Alliance, on Monday announced a lasting tribute to the Alliance’s late President, Liz Berger.

In a short ceremony at Edgar Street and Trinity Place that also included her husband Fred Kaufman and daughter Phoebe and was attended by many friends, colleagues and former co-workers, signs designating Elizabeth H. Berger Plaza–what had been Edgar Plaza–were unveiled.

The newly renamed “Elizabeth H. Berger Plaza” is a testament to the commitment she showed to enlivening the entire Greenwich Street corridor, and the passion she felt toward all of Lower Manhattan. Her name is now affixed to a piece of the city she so loved.
