Pier 15 has opened without much fanfare but with much promise of becoming a popular stop on any visit to Lower Manhattan.
On behalf of the Downtown Alliance, I took a stroll down toward the East River. And the scene is simply fantastic. This spot is an obvious gem that will be discovered soon.
The SHoP Architects-designed Pier is comprised of two levels, with spots to leisurely relax on grass, benches and stairs so close to the water you can virtually dip your toes in (okay, when the weather is warmer!).
(The project is part of the city’s East River Waterfront project, and we’re already in love with the first leg because it contains a nice dog run!).
Even on a moderately cold day a few visitors had camped out by the water’s edge for a spectacular view of the Brooklyn Bridge, Pier 17 and the South Street Seaport Museum’s vessels, and the Brooklyn waterfront.
It’s worth a trip.
