What Makes Them Run? An Excellent Cause

The Downtown Alliance team at the annual J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge

I just had a huge lunch from Toloache Taqueria on Maiden Lane. Do I feel bad about overeating? Not today. Why? Because yesterday, I, along with a number of my coworkers, ran in the 35th annual J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge. Fifteen-thousand  of New York City’s employees ran last night, and 15,000 more will run again tonight to benefit the Central Parks Conservancy.

This is the 35th consecutive summer the Corporate Challenge has been held in Central Park, debuting on July 13, 1977 with a modest 200 runners. Since, more than 1.3 million runners and walkers have earned Corporate Challenge finisher T-shirts.

Following Thursday’s second race in Central Park, the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge Series moves from Manhattan approximately 275 miles upstate for the 29th running of the Chase Corporate Challenge in Syracuse, benefiting Child Care Solutions.

This was my third annual race in Central Park and I find it very enjoyable for any number of reasons. First, it gives me a reason to run when I otherwise would not. Second, it is for a good cause. And third, it is a great team-building exercise that many of my co-workers thoroughly enjoy.

We Run Downtown. Literally.
