In honor of our Architect Magazine Progressive Architecture award, this is one of my favorite designs that came out of the Greenwich South study. Designed by Lewis.Tsurumaki.Lewis and Transsolar Climate Engineering, the “Green Sponge” is made from common construction materials and is one part pollution scrubber and one part park. Exhaust from cars using the Battery Tunnel is funneled through the dense trees above while people can walk along scaffolding surrounding the ventilation facility. Voila, a totally new kind of mixed use!
You can check out this project and the entire study for yourself here.
