Welcome back to Owen for Business!  I’m Michael Owen, and in this issue of Owen for Business we’ll highlight some nearby inviting spaces that will help you get away for a while.  If you see any new retailers or changes to existing retailers, please email me at [email protected]. Thanks!

One Art Space – 23 Warren Street, 646-559-0535

Owner and Director Dan Giella ‘s dreams of opening his own art gallery have come to fruition. One Art Space has recently opened inside the arcaded entrance at 23 Warren Street, giving Lower Manhattan a wonderful new addition.  Artist Blake Shirley’s work is currently on display, which will be followed by Daniel Belardinelli’s Vital Signs exhibit that opens September 8th.

In addition to the impressive works of art, you may also notice the quirky real estate ads around the corner from the gallery.  It’s no surprise that the pulp-esque ads are also designed by the artistic troupe at One Art Space.

Silver Lining – 75 Murray, 212-513-1234

Joseph Schwartz and Vito Dieterle have transformed the basement of the Bogardus Mansion into Silver Lining, a stylish cocktail bar that also serves live jazz.  Dieterle, a saxophonist and bartender,  has decorated the exposed brick walls with his family’s old photographs, which not only make Grandma proud, but also give the bar an air of authenticity.  The crowd can best be described as modern retro; pinstripes, vests, and an overriding art deco feel pervade the space.  However, the comfortable atmosphere allows everyone to feel right at home, seersucker suit or not.

Silver Lining is reminiscent of an old speakeasy bar, except without the looming tension of prohibition.  So swing by for the jazz, an expertly fashioned cocktail, or perhaps just to speak easy with some friends.

The Oscar Shoppe – South Street Seaport, Pier 17, 212-608-3697

Gifts, posters, and so much more await you at The Oscar Shoppe which just opened on the second floor of the Pier 17 Mall.

7 Hanover Square Barber Shop – 7 Hanover Square, 646-340-6071

Barbers Mike, Eddie, and Rafael bring their hair cutting expertise to their new shop at 7 Hanover Square.  Swing by for a haircut, a hot-towel shave, or just a quick trim before a night out.  7 Hanover Square Barber Shop is also kid friendly.

TBD Lounge – 15 Gold Street

Kevin O’Gilvie, CEO and Founder of Chill Marketing, has partnered with Gild Hall, a Thompson Hotel, to bring Lower Manhattan the TBD Lounge.  The Libertine Restaurant at Gild Hall transforms into the TBD Lounge Thursdays through Saturday from 6 PM to 2 AM.

The inspiration for the space came after a group of local artists used the long, stark hallway to showcase their art work.  The TBD Lounge creates a dynamic environment that promotes art, culture, and nightlife — evoking a “to be determined” spirit.

Closings:

Yankee Clipper – 170 John Street
Patuca – 41 John Street
Little Lads – 120 Broadway
Action Center To End World Hunger – 6 River Terrace
