Welcome back to Mess Around Downtown!

Happy Thanksgiving Downtowners. I figure that after feasting tomorrow you will be ready to shop for deals, drink some fine spirits, and treat yourself to a pedicure. And you may need a new dry cleaner to get that fresh gravy stain out of your favorite sweater. Below you will find new retailers to meet all of your Black Friday needs. If you see any new retailers or changes to existing retailers, please do not hesitate to email me at [email protected]. Thanks and Happy Turkey Day!

Vintry Wine & Whiskey – 57 Stone Street: 212-480-9800, www.vintrynyc.com

Just when you thought Stone Street could not get any better, this place moves in. The aptly named Vintry, nestled into a cozy historic space, specializes in, you guessed it, wine and whiskey. Knowledgable bartenders can point you to the right scotch or wine for your palate on their extensive menu. And their small plate menu is impressive with items like lobster stuffed mushrooms, caviar, smoked salmon knishes, cured meats, and desserts.

The Iron Horse – 32 Cliff Street: 646-546-5426, www.ironhorsenyc.com

I got the sense when I visited this new bar off of Fulton street that this horse could not be tamed. Loud music, good people, a simple grill menu, and a pool table are the staples of this fantastically raucous bar. The bartender assured me that no matter what time of day or how bad the stock market is, there is always good times a to be had at The Iron Horse.

Lot-Less Closeouts – 95 Fulton Street: 212-566-8504

This gigantic discount store opened its doors yesterday where the Strand used to live. Where else in Lower Manhattan can you find holiday decorations, Isotoners, Triscuits, weekly planners, and cheap designer dress shoes under the same roof? Nowhere, that’s where. I was impressed by the prices in here for some nice stuff.

Cliff Street Cleaners – 15 Cliff Street: 212-264-4400, www.cliffcleaners.com

Opened last week between Fulton and John Streets. This family owned and operated business offers free pick up and delivery, custom tailoring and alterations, and will even wash and fold your laundry.

Spring Nail Spa N.Y. – 119 Fulton Street: 212-766-8808

After cooking all day tomorrow, you should treat yourself to a pedicure and a massage at this fine new establishment. They also offer manicures, waxing, and threading services. Managed by a friendly owner and employees excited to be a part of the competitive nail spa scene down here.
