Mess Around Downtown – October 21, 2009
Welcome back to Mess Around Downtown!
I am always impressed when walking my Downtown beat by the small business owners that I get to meet and talk with. They are confident, determined and invested in making their Downtown neighborhood an even greater place to live, work and play. This week The Mess brings you news about two of these entrepeneurs taking a risk by expanding into the vacant space next door. Also, a fresh start for a Long Island Jeweler who decided to make the move to Lower Manhattan. If you see any new retailers or any changes to existing retailers, please email me at [email protected]. Thanks!

Antonella’s Salon – 6-8 Beekman Street: 212-233-1830
Originally Antonella’s Barber Shop. When the mobile phone store next door closed, Antonella could not help but take the space and make it her own. Tall ceilings and genuine friendly service make Antonella’s Salon worth a shot for a man or woman looking for a new style.

Omega Jewelers – 132 Nassau Street: 212-766-2400
If you are looking for a jeweler to develop a one on one friendly rapport with, then you must give Rafael at Omega a try. This new little store has nice selection and a good vibe. Omega wants you to be their customer and your one stop for all of your jewelry needs. So says the slogan on their business card.

Barbarini Mercato– 225 Front Street: 212-227-8890, www.barbarinimercato.com
This place has tasty real Italian food with a very cool atmosphere. You can’t beat exposed brick, an open cheese tasting space and a skylight all in the same space. None of this matters though if the food is no good. But it is good, so it matters even more. The original Barbarini Alimentari is right next door connected by a hole in the wall. If you are a Downtowner, you must eat here.

Here is the one vacancy I have come across this past week.
29 John Street – E-Tea House

As always, thank you for being on the look out and please continue to send any changes you come across to [email protected]
