Get ready to explore.

Just 800 yards from Manhattan is an island oasis with more than 100 acres of open space, 600 free bikes, 23 art exhibits, 28 food trucks, 50 hammocks, 2 new pavilions, 24 chickens and one very friendly dog. Governors Island is open to the public seven days a week from now until September 27 and promises summer fun for all ages. It is free for anyone with an IDNYC (municipal city ID card).

Just a ferry ride away, the island offers a range of activities—  bike riding, mini golf, music, dance, or just relaxing in a hammock.  You can check out all the summer events by clicking here.

And don’t forget to keep your eye open for Max, the island’s newest pet. The five-year-old, adopted Border collie is trained to greet guests and keep away those pesky geese!
