Terracotta Girl Power In Lower Manhattan

You don’t have to travel to China to view the famed Terracotta Warriors.  Simply, head over to the China Institute at 104 Washington Street to view the free Terracotta Daughters exhibition that is on display through October 4^th.

116 life-sized clay sculptures were created by New York-based French artist Prune Nourry along with craftsmen in Xi’an to build this powerful installation that reflects on gender preference in China.

Trained as a sculptor, Nourry enjoys creating pieces her audience can interact with by offering an accessible and participatory artistic experience to the viewer.  Catch the impact of her artistry at the only stop in the U.S. on the exhibit’s world tour right here in Lower Manhattan.

China Institute recently relocated from Midtown. Their space will be used for galleries, classroom, and multimedia displays. “What was appealing to them was really the renaissance of the whole area with Conde Nast coming downtown. They wanted to be one of the earliest cultural institutions to make the move at this point, as the market’s been heating up,” said Michael Pilevsky, co-president of Philips International.  For more info, click here.
