That looks to be on Broadway near Maiden Lane. I looked at old street maps of lower Manhattan (e.g., http://www.davidrumsey.com/NYC.htm ), but I couldn’t find any reference to “Temple Street.” Did anyone else have better luck?
Actually, this 1695 map shows Temple Street as a north-south street just west of Broadway: http://www.nyctourist.com/images/historic/maps/new_york_1695.jpg
This 1916 map shows Temple Street just west of Broadway existing for only one block: between Cedar and Liberty Streets. http://www.nyctourist.com/images/historic/maps/new_york_city_lower_manhattan_rider_1916.jpg
A park now occupies the old route of Temple Street.
Temple Street used to run between Liberty and Cedar Streets west of Broadway, but was eliminated in the 1960s to make way for an urban plaza.
In the aftermath of 9/11/01, the sign came down.
